World premier of ballet Calliope. WEEK 3.
Last fall, I received a letter from the director of the Ruse Opera, Plamen Beykov. Mr. Beikov introduced himself in a letter, since we did not know each other before, and invited me to look at materials on the new ballet Kaliope, mainly based on the ancient legend of the city of Ruse. Get acquainted with the scenario plan written by Alexander Malchev and the musical score by Emil Tabakov.
Soon I received the materials, and after reading the story of Kaliope, I found that this love story is well suited for a beautiful ballet. Soon, they sent me a recording of music that was performed at the March Music Days festival. To be honest, until this moment, I was not very familiar with the works of Emil Tabakov. I was so moved by his music that I immediately began listening to his other works available on the Internet. The idea of this project interested me very much, and I agreed to the offer to do choreography for this ballet.
In October, I came to meet the production team, with scriptwriter Alexander Malchev, composer Emil Tabakov, set designer Elica Georgieva and costume designer Parvoleta Chavdarova -Leticia. And of course, the theater director, who took upon himself the producing responsibility of such an important project. These meetings were surprisingly filled with the energy of the upcoming major theatrical work. These meetings and acquaintance with the ballet troupe only strengthened my desire to come to the city of Ruse, which I really liked when I first met, and to transfer the ancient love legend of the city of Ruse into ballet language.
