"It is important that with so many premieres each of them, regardless of genre, theme, musical differences, is a truly artistic phenomenon. It is also important that Uralsky is a master with experience, serious professional accumulation, armed with a thorough knowledge of the profession".

KONSTANTIN URALSKY – Choreographer, Master Teacher, and Artistic Director

Konstantin Uralsky began his professional career after graduating from the Moscow Academic Choreographic School (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), when he was invited to join the Bolshoi Ballet. During his decade with the company, he toured internationally and performed leading roles in the classical repertoire, including ROMEO AND JULIET, THE NUTCRACKER, DON QUIXOTE, MACBETH, SWAN LAKE, THE SLEEPING BEAUTY, GISELLE, SPARTACUS, and many others. During this period, Uralsky deepened his academic training, earning a degree in Choreography from the Russian State Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) and later continuing his studies in modern dance and jazz at the Palucca School in Dresden, Germany.

In 1990, Uralsky moved to the United States, marking a decisive transition toward a career centered on choreography and teaching. Over the course of his career, he has choreographed more than fifty ballets and major productions for companies and institutions in nine countries. His choreographic work soon began to attract international attention for its energy, musicality, and strong theatrical imagination.

Konstantin Uralsky served as Artistic Director of Ballet Iowa in Des Moines, USA, overseeing both the professional company and its affiliated school. During this period, he choreographed more than two dozen original works and staged major classical ballets. Among these productions were DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, THINKING OF PETRUSHKA, MACBETH, MORE THAN TWO TO TANGO, ADAGIO, SNOW WHITE, I GOT RHYTHM, CARMEN SUITE, ROMEO AND JULIET, THE NUTCRACKER, and BIRDS.

Alongside his artistic directorship, Uralsky traveled extensively throughout the United States, teaching master classes, seminars, and coaching dancers for professional ballet companies, ballet schools, and university programs. His teaching work consistently brought energy and artistic depth to both students and faculty.

Uralsky later moved to New York, where he founded the Ballet School on Long Island. He also established the chamber ballet company Ballet New York, serving as its founder and artistic director. For Ballet New York, he choreographed numerous original works, including WANDERERS IN THE LIGHT, SOUNDS OF THE HOLIDAYS, and DANCES OF THE WORLD.

Uralsky’s European work includes a series of significant invitations to stage and create major productions. Following the success of DOCTOR ZHIVAGO, he was invited to stage this ballet for State Theatre Varna in Bulgaria. This was followed by invitations to create THE NUTCRACKER for State Ballet Stara Zagora and SWAN LAKE for State Ballet Plovdiv. In 2024, he returned to Bulgaria for the world premiere of his original ballet CALLIOPE with State Ballet Ruse.

By invitation of the National Dance Academy of Rome, Uralsky created a choreographic work honoring the legacy of the Diaghilev Seasons (2009). Most recently, in Poland, he was invited to create a unique restaging of the historic ballet THE FAIRY DOLL for the jubilee celebration of the Gdańsk State Ballet School. His international invitations also include staging CARMEN for the Antalya State Opera and Ballet Theatre in Turkey.

Uralsky was invited by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the Russian Dance Association to choreograph the one-act ballet STREET for the Diamonds of the World Ballet Gala at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow. He later premiered his two-act ballet WALTZ OF WHITE ORCHIDS at the New Opera House in Moscow, a production commissioned by Ballet Moscow and marking his first large-scale choreographic work in Russia.

Uralsky was commissioned by the Chelyabinsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre to create a new production of Prokofiev’s ROMEO AND JULIET, followed by the full-length ballet EL MUNDO DE GOYA, inspired by the life and works of Francisco Goya. The success of these productions led to his appointment as Artistic Director of the Chelyabinsk State Ballet Company.

From 2011 to 2020, Konstantin Uralsky served as Artistic Director of the Ballet of the Astrakhan State Opera and Ballet Theatre. During this period, he built a new ballet company and developed a broad classical and contemporary repertory. His productions included SWAN LAKE, THE NUTCRACKER, DON QUIXOTE, ROMEO AND JULIET, WALTZ OF WHITE ORCHIDS, ANDREY RUBLEV (world premiere), and PIAF. JE NE REGRETTE RIEN, among others. Under his leadership, the Astrakhan Ballet toured internationally, including performances in the United Kingdom, Germany, and China.

In parallel with his choreographic and directorial work, Uralsky served for nine years as Head of the Ballet Division at the Astrakhan State College of Arts, training professional ballet dancers. He also taught classical ballet methodology and choreography at the Moscow Institute of Theatre Arts.

In recent years, Konstantin Uralsky has continued working internationally as a freelance choreographer and educator, staging ballets and teaching master classes in choreography, stage direction, and improvisation. His work continues to inspire dancers and audiences worldwide through its musical sensitivity, theatrical depth, and commitment to classical tradition combined with contemporary expression.
